Trauma

Work through painful experiences with trauma-informed care designed to restore safety and trust.

Symptoms of Trauma

Trauma can follow a single overwhelming event, such as an accident or assault, or build up over time through experiences like childhood neglect, ongoing conflict, migration or loss. Trauma doesn't always look dramatic; it often shows up quietly in how you feel, react and relate to others.

Common signs of trauma include:

  • Intrusive memories, flashbacks or nightmares

  • Feeling constantly on guard, jumpy or easily startled

  • Avoiding people, places or conversations that remind you of what happened

  • Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected from yourself or others

  • Strong reactions that feel bigger than the situation

  • Difficulty trusting people or feeling safe in relationships

  • Physical symptoms such as tension, headaches, fatigue or trouble sleeping

You can read more in my post on what trauma really looks like.

When to Get Help for Trauma

It may be time to reach out if memories, fear or numbness are affecting your sleep, work or relationships, if you're avoiding parts of your life, or if you simply feel stuck. HealthLink BC offers more information about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

How I Can Help

Trauma counselling with me is gentle, collaborative and trauma-informed. That means you stay in control of the pace, and we focus first on helping you feel safe and grounded. I offer sessions in person in Port Coquitlam and Downtown Vancouver, and online anywhere in BC, in English and Farsi.

Together, we may:

  • Build skills to calm your body and mind when memories or reactions feel overwhelming

  • Understand how past experiences are shaping your present thoughts, feelings and relationships

  • Use approaches such as CBT, ACT and DBT skills to manage intense emotions

  • Rebuild a sense of trust, self-worth and connection

I bring a multicultural lens to my work, and I understand that experiences like immigration and cultural transition can add layers to trauma. Healing isn't about forgetting what happened; it's about no longer being controlled by it.
